The Naples Science Center, a science education complex, was destroyed by a fire in 2013. As a result, a competition was launched to design the new Science Museum building.

The new building consists in a wide-span steel truss – hosting most of the museum program – suspended over a botanic garden connecting the mainland to the sea, leaving flows and views accessible to the visitors. A cafeteria and a restaurant are located on the rooftop, providing a sky deck panoramic terrace on the Gulf of Pozzuoli.
